So who are we, really?
The "we" is Ahwatukee Pet Sitting LLC, but when it gets down to
who comes to take care of your pets, it's mostly just one person.
My name is Jon Drucker, and I've lived in Ahwatukee since December 2006.
Before starting this venture I've had a few other career paths. I am a
librarian by training, but I've also been a web developer, a small business
owner, a grocery store manager, as well as a few other things.
Most importantly, I have been and am once again a full-time parent. With my youngest son entering school this year I realized I would not be able to go to a day job unless I could find one that would mesh with school hours. I also missed the rewards of running my own business. Given my long personal history living and working with animals, becoming a professional pet sitter seemed like the most sensible thing to do.
I've been caring for companion animals since I was 4 years old, when my family decided to keep the stray cat that had "adopted" our back yard. Since then - nearly four decades later - I've adopted dozens of cats and dogs and also pet sat for friends' dogs and cats, as well as a few exotics. I've had plenty of experience caring for elderly, ill, and special needs cats and dogs.
Today I have eight cats of my own, ranging in age from 3 to 16. They're all "rescued" animals, including a born-feral female, the two survivors of a litter with distemper, a geriatric tabby who was found at a bus station, and Clete, who lived at the Humane Society for over three years because he couldn't play nice with any other living creature but has since become a lap cat. Most of my cats have enjoyed good long lives, living to be as old as 21.
I don't have room to give a home to a dog (or two ... or three ...) just now, but once I have a bigger house, I'm heading to the animal shelter to find a couple of mutts that need a home. In the past I've taken care of plenty of "runner" dogs, including a Russian Wolfhound, rescued greyhounds, a "rehabbed" Portuguese Water Dog, and a Lab mix who climbed trees (really).
As an animal person (and a parent), I understand that your pet or pets are a part of your family and your life. My goal is to give your pets the TLC they expect from you while you're away.
