Equipment
- Oven
- Rolling Pin
- Baking Sheet
- Mixing Bowl
Ingredients
- 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour May substitute with 1 1/4 cup oat flour for a gluten free option
- 1/2 cup Creamy Peanut Butter Must NOT contain the sweetener xylitol (it is toxic to dogs)
- 1/4 cup Unsweetened Apple Sauce May substitute with mashed banana
- 1/4 cup Low-sodium Chicken Stock or Broth May substitute with low-sodium vegetable or beef stock or broth.
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Combine flour, peanut butter, and apple sauce in large mixing bowl
- Add chicken stock and mix until well-combined and dough is thick
- Use hands to shape dough into a ball
- Place dough ball on a flat surface and use rolling pin to flatten evenly to 1/4” thick
- Use cookie cutters to cut dough into shapes and place on ungreased baking sheet
- Bake for 18 minutes, or until golden brown and dry
- Let cool and store in airtight container
Notes
NEVER use any ingredient with the artificial sweetener xylitol. It is toxic to dogs and can be fatal, even in small amounts.
For nicely shaped cookies, and to prevent sticking, sprinkle the surface with a small amount of flour and also rub onto the rolling pin.
Depending on the cookie cutter size, you may get more or less treats. Larger cookies may need to be baked longer, so be sure to aim for a golden brown color.
For a fun peanut butter cookie effect, use a butter knife to put two score lines along the top of the cookie before baking.
